The fifth day of the Erasmus+ Mobility of Youth Workers project “A Cultural Case: Sports” was successfully carried out with activities dedicated to exploring Hungary’s traditional sports culture and strengthening intercultural interaction among participants. Throughout the day, participants had the opportunity to discover the cultural dimensions of sport while gaining a deeper understanding of the traditions and heritage of different countries.

The day began with the daily exercise session, which has become a regular part of the project. Participants came together for a half-hour Zumba activity and started the day with energy and enthusiasm. By experiencing the benefits of regular physical activity, participants observed the positive effects of sport not only on physical health but also on mental well-being. These daily exercise sessions strengthened social bonds among participants and helped them engage in the day’s activities with greater motivation and focus.

Another important part of the day was dedicated to environmental sustainability. Participants continued collecting recyclable materials and developing creative objects that would be presented at the end of the project. Working in groups, they contributed to environmental cleanliness while increasing their awareness of waste management and sustainable living. The activity once again highlighted the importance of incorporating environmentally friendly practices into everyday life.

The main activity of the day, organized by the Hungarian team, was a traditional sports panel focusing on the influence of Hungarian culture on sport. Conducted in a collegium format, the panel brought together expert guests and participants to discuss how Hungarian culture has shaped sporting traditions throughout history. During the session, traditional sports such as Csürközés, Íjászat, Botoló, and Kendö were introduced. Participants gained comprehensive knowledge about the historical background, cultural significance, and contemporary relevance of these traditional activities.

Following the panel session, participants had the opportunity to learn and practice Csürközés, a traditional sport deeply rooted in Hungarian culture. The rules and techniques of the game were explained in detail by experts before participants took part in practical demonstrations. Through this activity, participants experienced the importance of cooperation, solidarity, and teamwork while also improving their physical abilities and strategic thinking skills.

Another traditional activity of the day focused on Karikás Ostor, an important element of Hungarian pastoral culture. Introduced by the Hungarian team with the support of authentic materials, the activity explored the historical and cultural significance of this traditional practice. Participants learned about the role of Karikás Ostor in Hungarian folk culture and gained valuable insights into its place within the country’s cultural heritage. The activity further demonstrated the importance of preserving traditional practices and cultural identity through sport and community engagement.

The final activity of the day, the Culture Festival, provided one of the strongest examples of intercultural dialogue throughout the project. Participants introduced traditional dishes, dances, and local clothing from their respective countries. The festival created an open and friendly atmosphere where participants asked questions, shared experiences, and discussed both the similarities and differences between their cultures. They also had the opportunity to learn each other’s traditional dances and taste a variety of cultural specialties, making the event a vibrant celebration of European cultural diversity.

By the end of the fifth day, participants had developed a deeper understanding of how sport serves as an important element of cultural identity while also strengthening their appreciation of cultural diversity and mutual respect. Through traditional sports activities, environmental sustainability initiatives, and intercultural exchange events, the day became a memorable learning experience. These activities contributed significantly to fostering intercultural dialogue, reducing prejudices, and promoting a greater appreciation of Europe’s rich cultural heritage and diversity.
